HOMEWORK
Quality reading homework will be sent home on the first day of each week, and will be due back on the last day of that same week. This is typically Monday-Friday. It will not be accepted early.
Research supports homework if it is beneficial and meets the students' needs, without taking too much time. The assigned reading homework is designed this way, and asks students to read the same passage each evening, and then answer a few questions pertaining to the text. The repeated reading will increase awareness of text and fluency. Your child will be increasing reading skills, strategies, and knowledge each day with his/her homework. It is expected that your child will need assistance to complete the work each night. You should see a growth in independence as the year progresses.
There will be a spelling test each Friday. Spelling words will be given to students to record in their agenda on Monday. The list can also be found under the "Learning Link" tab.
An agenda, provided by the PTO, will be used to record homework and important information about our class and school each day. Parent signature/initials each day is considered homework.

*1st Qtr.: Both teacher and parent will sign/initial each day.
*2nd Qtr.: Teacher will visually check completed agenda, and parent will continue to sign/initial.
*3rd & 4th Qtrs.: Teacher will not check agenda, unless we feel that this would benefit the child. Parent signature/initials is required.
Homework & Detention Policy
If a student does not turn in homework:
*A detention notice will be issued.
*It must be signed and returned the next school day, with the completed homework.
*The detention will be voided.

If the signed detention notice and completed homework are not returned:
*Parents will be notified.
*Child will serve detention.
Detention will be held Monday-Thursday
from 3:30-4:00.
